Objectives: Obesity is a coronary vascular disease risk factor, and the reduced heart rate variability(HRV) is an independent predictor for morbidity and mortality due to coronary vascular disease. The authors investigated the correlation of obesity and HRV in Korean women.
Methods: The subjects were 18 Korean women. Aged over 25, they visited a hospital from the April 2005 to May 2005. Body mass index(BMI) and waist circumference of the subjects were measured for obesity parameters. Also, the followings were measured for HRV parameter; Standard Deviation of N-N interval(SDNN), The Square Root of the Mean Squared Difference of successive NN intervals (RMSSD), Total Power(TP), Low Frequency(LF), High Frequency(HF). Then correlation of these parameters with respect to each obesity parameters were analyzed.
Results and Conclusions: 1. Correlation between Heart rate variability and obesity parameters before treatment, The DELTA BMI has positive correlation with SDNN, RMSSD, and HF. The DELTA WC showed positive correlation with HF.
2. Correlation after treatment, the DELTA BMI has no correlation with HRV parameters. The DELTA WC showed positive correlation with SDNN. In women, obesity parameters have a correlation with SDNN, RMSSD, especially HF.
